Job Description
The Data Analyst 3 on the Credit and Payments Analytics team is responsible for delivering advanced data analysis and actionable insights to support Nordstrom's payments business. This role involves conducting deep-dive analysis, developing strategies, and producing detailed reporting via data storytelling to monitor portfolio performance, optimize vendor card marketing strategies, and enhance payment solutions. The Data Analyst 3 will work closely with cross-functional partners, the Payment Analytics Manager, and external stakeholders to provide data-driven recommendations that drive profitable growth, improve the customer experience, and mitigate risk, via start to end individual and team project ownership.
Key Responsibilities:
Advanced Analytics & Decision Support:
Deliver data-driven analytics and actionable insights to guide strategic decision-making within the Payments organization.
Conduct advanced analysis to interpret payment fee trends, JWN channel performance, customer engagement with JWN card, and card marketing campaign effectiveness among other areas of the business
Develop and own forecasts, KPIs, and expectations for payment strategies, ensuring alignment with business objectives.
Communication & Data Storytelling:
Work using visualization and presentation tools to deliver a concise, compelling, and impactful message for presentations to key business partners
Be able to identify key messages in data, either self-developed analytics or by team members, to provide actionable answers to the business
Data Reporting & Insights:
Build and maintain dashboards, reports, and presentations to communicate key insights and trends to internal stakeholders.
Summarize complex data into actionable recommendations and present findings clearly to cross-functional partners and senior leadership.
Solve complex queries from leadership and business partners via self-driven data exploration and hypothesis testing
Monitor emerging trends in account vintages, portfolio performance, and payment behaviors, sharing insights with relevant teams.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
Partner with key internal stakeholders, including Marketing, Finance, Product, and IT, to support payment initiatives and data development.
Work closely with external partners, such as Visa, Mastercard, to ensure alignment on strategies, reporting, and performance expectations.
Team Leadership:
Act as a subject matter expert (SME) within the team, ensuring best practices in data analysis, reporting, and model development are followed.
Ad Hoc Projects:
Respond to ad hoc business requests with timely and accurate analysis, driving actionable insights to solve complex problems.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's degree in finance, Economics, Statistics, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
4+ years of experience in analytics and reporting, with a desired focus on payment or marketing analytics within the retail industry.
2+ years of experience in applying statistical techniques, including experimental design and hypothesis testing.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
Strong ability to synthesis data and outputs into an easy-to-understand story is a must for this role.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information to diverse audiences.
Able to develop and deliver presentations to key business partners with minimal oversite.
Technical Skills:
Advanced proficiency in SQL, BigQuery, SAS, or Python for data extraction, manipulation, and analysis.
Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, Looker, or similar platforms.
Strong skills in creating macros, automating repetitive tasks, and optimizing code for efficiency.
Knowledge of the payments industry, including payment processing, fraud, and fee management is a plus

$102,500.00 - $170,500.00 Annual
This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
