Be part of something exceptional! We're seeking a passionate and detail-oriented intern to help establish a state-of-the-art TAPPI paper testing laboratory at Amazon Packaging. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of sustainable packaging from the ground up. In this role, you'll pioneer the setup of our cutting-edge paper testing facility, mastering sophisticated testing equipment including burst, tensile, tear, and ECT instruments. You'll also explore material properties using our specialized wet lab featuring handsheet forming capabilities, freeness testing, and microscopic analysis. Your responsibilities will include developing and documenting standard operating procedures (SOPs), building and managing comprehensive data systems, collaborating with external labs to ensure precise calibration and testing alignment, and driving continuous improvement through data analysis and reporting.
The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience with TAPPI test methods, a strong analytical mindset, and meticulous attention to detail. We're looking for someone who excels in data management and organizational skills, demonstrates a self-motivated approach to problem-solving, maintains a passion for laboratory systems and procedures, and possesses effective technical communication abilities.

Key job responsibilities
• Start-up and calibrate paper lab testing equipment in partnership with equipment vendors
• Drive operational excellence through daily lab management, including oversight of testing procedures, quality control, and workflow optimization
• Establish a sample tracking mechanism and intake process for paper materials lab
• Develop technical documentation, including SOPs, test reports and stakeholder communications
• Partner with internal teams and external vendors to drive continuous improvement
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols and maintain lab tidiness standards
- Currently pursuing on Bachelor's degree in Paper Science, Engineering, Packaging, Materials Science, or similar related fields.
- Experience in laboratory settings and scientific methods.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Experience with data analytics and reporting tools.
- Experience in stakeholder management and communication.
- Experience with safety protocols and compliance requirements.
- Experience working within industrial laboratory operations
- Knowledge and experience with TAPPI, ASTM, ISO Test Methods
- Understanding of paper, packaging industry trends and sustainability initiatives
- Background in continuous improvement methodologies
- Previous experience with packaging automation or robotics

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $32.31/hr in our lowest geographic market up to $72.26/hr in our highest geographic market.
